Amid accelerating digital transformation, the demand for Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity is experiencing explosive growth. At MWC Shanghai, which officially opened on June 18, eSIM has emerged as a key technology focus for the industry.
Driven by the strong promotion and support of China Unicom, eSIM technology is undergoing rapid adoption and development in China. As a key partner in China Unicom’s industrial ecosystem, Beijing Watchdata Co., Ltd. (Watchdata) showcased its latest solutions, including a new eSIM and an intelligent IoT Connectivity Management Platform. Watchdata’s IoT offerings have attracted significant attention from industry experts, technology decision-makers, and potential partners.

The eSIM solution presented by Watchdata supports remote SIM provisioning and flexible switching between multiple mobile network operators. Strictly compliant with the GSMA SGP.32 specification for IoT, it dramatically simplifies the device integration process. This fundamentally resolves the complexities associated with traditional SIM cards in inventory management, logistics, and supply chain coordination, enabling device manufacturers to achieve significant reductions in operational expenditure (OpEx). The accompanying IoT Connectivity Management Platform integrates AI-powered intelligent operations and maintenance (O&M), featuring real-time global device monitoring, fault alerts, and predictive maintenance capabilities. The platform can proactively identify potential issues and automatically optimize network performance, effectively ensuring business continuity.

Smart retail, a sector with stringent requirements for connection stability and low latency, is a primary focus area for Watchdata’s IoT solutions. During their digital upgrades, traditional retail stores commonly face operational pain points such as lengthy network deployment cycles, high infrastructure investment costs, and delayed responses to equipment failures. The challenge of unified network management for multi-regional chain stores, in particular, has been a persistent industry problem.
Watchdata’s eSIM technology provides a streamlined solution to these issues. Terminals such as smart POS machines and payment speakers can achieve true plug-and-play functionality. Furthermore, 5G CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) and industrial routers deliver high-speed, stable network coverage for chain stores, allowing for rapid deployment without the need for complex on-site configuration.

Leveraging deep partnerships with multiple mainstream operators worldwide, Watchdata has established a service network spanning six continents. This ensures that retail devices can be rapidly activated in any market and receive high-quality, localized network services. This globally unified connectivity management capability provides robust technical support for the rapid expansion and standardized operations of multinational retail enterprises, while also offering a low-barrier digital solution for SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) expanding into international markets.
At the exhibition, several renowned retail enterprises and device manufacturers have reached preliminary cooperation intentions with Watchdata to jointly explore business development opportunities in emerging markets.

The GSMA SGP.32 standard provides a new IoT eSIM architecture that gives IoT service providers the flexibility to rapidly and cost-effectively switch between international mobile operators, empowering them to freely choose optimal international data packages.
“Our participation in MWC Shanghai is an opportunity to forge collaborations with more global partners and collectively advance the industry’s digital transformation,” stated the General Manager of Watchdata in a media interview. “We remain committed to transforming complex connectivity technologies into convenient, ready-to-use services for our clients. Looking ahead, Watchdata will continue to increase its R&D investment and, with a spirit of open collaboration, work alongside all partners in the value chain. We aim to create greater value for our customers in the era of the Internet of Everything and contribute to the growth of the global digital economy.”
