The biggest annual card trade show, CARTES & Identification Exhibition in Paris, is now successfully over. Thank you for visiting our stand and taking the time to meet with us. CARTES has proved to be one of the most outstanding international gatherings in the smart card industry.

This year Cartes 2009 is special for Watchdata as it celebrates its 15-year anniversary. Watchdata once again highlighted its latest innovation in the field of data security, smart card and mobile (U)SIM chip technologies. Watchdata was one of the finalists in the 2009 Sesames Awards for its Singapore CEPAS 2.0 Transport Card. Watchdata is the first and so far, the only smart card vendor to comply fully with Singapore Standard for Contactless ePurse Application Specification (CEPAS). CEPAS is a world's first in creating a nationwide interoperable micropayment platform that bridges gap between multiple sectors particularly transit and retail e-payment. 


Mobile payment is still a hot topic on this year’s show and Watchdata continues to be a pioneer in this field as it displayed its latest version of its SIMpass™ mobile payment solution. NFC trials around the world indicate that consumers embrace using the technology. However, business case for NFC remains unanswered as difference in opinion between stakeholders hinders the way the market develops. Bridging the gap is Watchdata’s SIMpass™ technology that plays the role of a bridging and yet interoperable platform. SIMpass™ is both “future proof” and “near-term proof” such that this ONE solution can support BOTH worlds, be it in NFC or non-NFC phone environment. SIMpass™ solution is ready to support NFC phones as the market adoption becomes mature and it supports the majority of non-NFC phones today and into the near future.


Another important highlight in Watchdata’s booth is the first EMV credit card to combine Visa payment, Visa payWave and transport applications in Singapore. DBS is the first bank in Singapore to introduce the 3-in-1 contactless smart card. Consumers, who in the past needed two or more cards for various payment options, now only need one card, which combines the benefits of a regular Visa credit card and the lifestyle privileges put together by DBS with the speed and convenience of contactless payment and transport services.
