Watchdata's CEPAS 2.0 Transport Card Voted Finalist for Sesames Innovation Awards at Cartes and Identification 2009

Singapore, 02 November 2009 - Watchdata, one of the leading innovative smart card and contactless technology solutions providers in the world was voted as a finalist for the prestigious SESAMES Innovation award in the transportation category. Watchdata is the first and so far, the only smart card vendor to comply fully with Singapore Standard for Contactless ePurse Application Specification (CEPAS). CEPAS is a world's first in creating a nationwide interoperable micropayment platform that bridges gap between multiple sectors particularly transit and retail e-payment.

CEPAS is a significant milestone for Singapore’s micropayment landscape and considered a major pillar of the national ePayment infrastructure, outlined in the Infocomm Development Authority’s (IDA's) 10-year infocomm masterplan, Intelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015).

The vision of CEPAS is for Singaporeans to have a single card for use all around Singapore for micro-payments. With the new CEPAS-compliant card, consumers will enjoy the ease and convenience of a single card for seamless and speedy contactless e-payment of goods and services around Singapore including public transport services (buses, MRT, LRT, taxis, ERP and parking), vending machine, fast food restaurants and convenience stores. This brings Singapore a step closer to its vision of having a “cashless society”.

The launch of CEPAS standard also levels and opens up the market, creating an all-win situation for consumers, card issuers, merchants and system operators as the usage of the CEPAS 2.0 card expands to many different areas. Watchdata has so far provided more than ten million CEPAS-compliant smart cards to Singapore card issuers.

The CEPAS 2.0 Transport card will be demonstrated by Watchdata at the CARTES and IDENTIFICATION trade show held on November 17th – 19th, 2009 in Hall 3, stand 3G017 at the Paris-Nord Exhibition Center in Villepinte (France).
