Watchdata e-Banking System Awarded Security Certification
2011-12-26

Singapore, 15 December 2011 – Watchdata Technologies, a worldwide leader in innovative data security and smart card technology, announced today that its “WatchKey” e-banking USB security token has received FIPS 140-2 certification under both the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) and the Communication Security Establishment of Canada (CSEC).

The results were announced by atsec, an independent, standards-based information technology security services company which operates a cryptographic and security testing laboratory. The FIPS 140-2 standard is mandatory for cryptographic products to be used by federal agencies in the U.S. and Canada.

The approval is the result of the combined efforts of Watchdata’s development team and atsec’s CST laboratory. During the final phase of the project, atsec succeeded in demonstrating that the “WatchKey” e-banking security device met the level 2 security requirements of the FIPS 140-2 standard. The successful validation result is published on the CMVP website at: http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/STM/cmvp/validation.html.

“The testing and validation process under the CMVP can be long and arduous, but typically results in a better product that is backed up by the security assurances of the FIPS 140-2 standard,” said Apostol Vassilev, atsec CST Lab Manager. “We commend Watchdata for its commitment to rigorous testing of their product through the validation programs at NIST and CSEC.”

“Thanks to atsec’s efforts and Watchdata’s product team, this certificate paves a new way for Warchdata’s USB Token towards the international market,” said Dr. Sean Gao, Watchdata Vice President, “but it is just a start; more is yet to come.”
