Singapore, 20th October 2011 – Watchdata, a worldwide leader in innovative data security and smart card technology, has been selected as a finalist (banking/retail/loyalty category) for the SESAMES Award at the upcoming CARTES event in Paris. The SESAMES Award recognizes the best innovative technological application in the field of smart cards, digital security, contactless and secure transactions.
Watchdata’s innovation is a SIM-based full-NFC-solution designed to address a void in the NFC payment space where vast majority of the phones cannot be easily transformed to perform functions such as making NFC payments, transiting data peer-to-peer (P2P) reading smart posters.

“One of the challenges facing the NFC payment world is the lack of NFC phones in the industry. With Watchdata’s SIM-based solution, we have made it possible to successfully integrate 3 chips into 1 SIM card, therefore providing emulation, reader and P2P modes in one card. That means that users don’t have to change their handset and can still get full NFC functionalities,” said Mr. Michael Yu, Group VP and President of International Business of Watchdata.
In 2010, Watchdata won the prestigious Asian Sesames Award with its DBS Live Fresh 3-in-1 Visa credit card entry. The DBS Live Fresh credit card embodies 3 powerful technologies in Watchdata’s TimeCOS® CeWave dual-interface technology approved by Visa for Visa Smart Debit Credit (VSDC) and payWave and was the first of its kind in Singapore.
Watchdata will be at the CARTES event in Paris from 15- 17 November 2011. Results of the SESAMES Award will be released on 15 November. For more information, visit our stand 3E021.
